About the Artist
Influenced by her parents who played jazz and other great music recordings, Virjette LaCour wrote her first song and sang it to her mother when she was 3 years old. She grew up in the church and attended Philadelphia public schools where she was a member of the glee club. Virjette has a warm, inviting personality which lends itself to her singing style.
Virjette attended Temple University and studied Jazz Vocal Improvisation and Classical Vocal Instruction under the guidance of Arsenia Rosal, Donna Jean Coccia and Curtis Harmon, Sr. While at Temple, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Rutgers University’s conservatory Mason Gross School of the Arts. Virjette has worked extensively in costume design and she continues to sing whenever possible.
Virjette loves to learn and express herself through different mediums. She is an Actress, Vocalist, Costume Designer, Educator, Tailor, Stylist, Wardrobe Supervisor, Flower Arranger, Upholsterer, and Event/Operations Manager. She continues to apply herself to her many crafts, interests and skills.
Since 2018, Virjette has been the Executive Director of Diva Nation Philly-Women of Music Bb, Ltd. It is a collective of women vocalists and other performing artists who gather regularly to collaborate, perform and network.
